Terms of Service

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Applies to: ZapLock for macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android, and this website. Use of the ZapQR password manager, browser extension and developer integrations is governed separately at zapqr.ai/terms.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and DaSecure Solutions LLC ("DaSecure", "we", "us") governing your use of ZapLock — including the ZapLock applications for macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android, the ZapLock account service, and the zaplock.io website (together, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, or using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

ZapLock encrypts the contents of a folder you choose, in place, using AES-256-GCM, and unlocks it after you sign in with a ZapQR account. The key that opens a folder is split: one half is held in your device's secure hardware, and the other half is released by the ZapLock account service only while your sign-in and your access are valid. We do not hold your files, your file names, or a whole key, and we cannot open a protected folder.

ZapLock is a security tool that operates on folders you already control. It does not own, host, back up, or otherwise take responsibility for your files, and it does not replace a backup.

3. Accounts

ZapLock requires a free ZapQR account. You are responsible for keeping access to that account and to the devices you enrol. Creating an account also means you accept the ZapQR account terms where they apply to sign-in and account management.

4. Price and availability

ZapLock 1.0 is offered free of charge. We may introduce paid tiers or features in future; if we do, we will say clearly what is included before you are asked to pay, and existing free functionality will not be taken away without notice. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the account service.

5. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

6. Your responsibilities

  • Keep your own backups. Encryption in place means a single copy of a file is transformed. Hardware failure, file-system corruption, a lost account, or a sync conflict can still cost you data, and because we hold no whole key we cannot recover it for you.
  • Unlock before you delete. If you delete your account, the server half of every key is destroyed with it and any folder still locked becomes permanently unreadable, by you and by us.
  • You may only protect, unlock, or share folders and files you own or are authorized to access.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your devices, your sign-in, and your biometric or screen-lock settings, and for removing devices you no longer control.
  • You must comply with all laws that apply to your use of the Service, including any law restricting encryption where you are.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to encrypt data you do not own or are not authorized to control, including as part of extortion or ransomware
  • Use the Service to access accounts, devices or systems without authorization
  • Interfere with, overload, probe, or disrupt the account service or any other part of the Service
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where permitted by law or by an applicable open-source license
  • Resell, rent, or redistribute the Service
  • Use the Service to store or transmit malware or unlawful content

8. Sharing and revocation

You may share a protected folder with another ZapQR account, and you may revoke that access at any time. Revocation takes effect when it reaches the other person's device — immediately when that device is online, and within minutes otherwise. You are responsible for who you share with, and you accept that anyone who held access may already have copied the contents while it was unlocked. Revocation cannot undo that.

9. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, vault format, and branding, is owned by DaSecure and protected by intellectual property laws, with patent(s) pending. These Terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as intended. Your files remain yours; we claim no rights to them.

10. Privacy

How we handle data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.

11. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties such as Apple and Google (app distribution) and Cloudflare (website and account-service hosting), and it can operate on folders synced by third-party services you choose, such as Dropbox, Google Drive or iCloud. We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them is governed by their own terms — including any earlier, unencrypted versions of your files those services may retain in their own version history.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY DATA WILL NOT BE LOST.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DASECURE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold DaSecure harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 9 and 12–14 survive termination. Remember that terminating your account destroys the server half of your keys — unlock anything you want to keep readable first.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users through the app or this website. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which DaSecure Solutions LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in that state, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
